Aahar Yojana Odisha: Odisha Aahar PDS – Aahar Yojana is an excellent scheme of our state government to help the poor people of the city. It is a food subsidy program run by the Odisha government to provide affordable lunch to the urban poor at Rs 5 per meal scheme. It was inaugurated on April 1, 2015 by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to provide cooked vegetarian food at subsidized meals on the state’s foundation day on Utkal Divas.

Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha Shri Naveen Patnaik dedicated 100 Aahar Kendras to the poor and needy people of the state on 14th April 2016. Presently there are 157 centers operating in 30 districts covering 73 cities of Odisha. Food outlets are mostly opened near hospitals and bus stands, railway stations, courts, collectorates etc.

About Odisha Aahar Yojana

  • Aahar scheme in Odisha provides food to the poor people of urban areas at subsidized rates of only Rs.5 per day.
  • This aahar yojana food subsidy program is being regulated by the Odisha government from the month of April 2015.

The program was conducted in five municipal corporations of Odisha – Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur, Sambalpur and Rourkela – with 21 Aahar Kendras. The objective of the program is to provide cooked hot food – steamed rice and dalma to the poor and needy people at Rs.5/-.

After successful implementation of the pilot programme, after completing the first anniversary, the program was expanded to cover all 30 districts of 73 cities. Hon’ble Chief Minister dedicated 100 Aahar Kendras to the people of Odisha on 14th April 2016. Presently 110 centers are functioning in Odisha. Housing and Urban Development Department is the nodal department to implement the diet program in the state.
